Study materials

CPC study materials: blueprint first, books second.

AAPC’s CPC exam rules and allowed references come first. Optional books below support gaps — they do not replace official guidelines.

Coder path

Confirm CPC is the right fork.

CPC is coding-first (often outpatient / physician). If your goal is claims and payments without coding as the core job, compare CPB study materials and the certification finder before you buy a full code-book set.

  1. Read AAPC CPC eligibility, fees, and exam format.
  2. Note which code books / editions are allowed or recommended for your window.
  3. Practice timed cases; don’t only read.
  4. Plan CEUs and membership after passing.

ICD-10-CM 2025: The Complete Official Codebook (ICD-10-CM the Complete Official Codebook)

Outpatient coding prep almost always needs a current ICD-10-CM — match the edition year to your exam window.

Medical Terminology for Health Professions, Spiral bound Version (MindTap Course List)

Structured terminology reference when you need more than flash-card drills.

Anatomy & Physiology Made Easy: An Illustrated Study Guide for Students To Easily Learn Anatomy and Physiology

Light anatomy support helps when documentation language is the bottleneck — not a substitute for coding guidelines.

Prefer issuer study guides when they conflict with third-party materials. See the shop for additional optional listings.
